Mishell is an amazing midwife and lactation consultant! I can’t rave about her enough. She has delivered both of my children now in my home in Oceano. (17 month and newborn) Each home birth was so drastically different, but Mishell was constant! I so appreciate the years of experience and professionalism she brings to the table. She approached each pregnancy with the uniqueness that each one carried. Even in stressful moments where quick decisions had to be made, Mishell was amazing and so calm. She brought so much peace to each birth, and it was such a blessing to have her deliver my kids.
"Mishell was my midwife for my second home birth (first home birth was in Orange County with a different midwife). Mishell provided the most supportive and nurturing midwife services I could have ever imagined experiencing. Her deep-rooted knowledge and experience made me feel so confident during my home birth. She created a very safe space for me to labor and deliver at home. I gave birth feeling healed, empowered and deeply cared for. I know that without a doubt I will ask Mishell to be my midwife if I have any other babies, and I wholeheartedly recommend her to any pregnant mamas looking for a midwife."
"It was so amazing to go through my pregnancy and birth with Mishell! She was the calm I needed during labor and what I appreciate even more is they supported my husband through the process as well! I could tell she was totally present and there for me and it was nice to know she was able to be there for me the entire time. The best part is even though my baby is 10 months old we still keep in touch! Mishell is definitely a part of our family now."
"Mishell was a wonderful midwife for us as we welcomed our first baby into the world. She is professional but personable, and it shows that she deeply cares about not only the mama and baby, but the whole family as well. Being first time parents, we had many questions during prenatals and Mishell responded to each one with compassion and knowledge. During the birth, her calm encouragement was what we needed to help get our baby out and into the world. Wouldn’t have wanted it to be anyone else. We love Mishell!!"
"My husband and I were blessed to have Mishell deliver our last two little ones at our home. After having had three hospital births we decided we wanted a change of pace. Mishell was perfect! Such a breath of fresh air, caring, compassionate, present when I needed her and all the while allowing me to labor and birth the way I wanted. I cannot sing her praises enough!!! If you are looking for a fabulous midwife then look no further, Mishell is who you want!"
"Mishell made my pregnancy, labor, and post partum experience beyond comfortable! At every appointment with her she made it very clear that was a priority. She listened to what I wanted for myself and my family and put our minds at ease with any concern. I would recommend her to anyone and will go to her again with my future pregnancies!"
"I do not have enough amazing things to say about the care that Mishell provided to our family. Throughout both of my pregnancies I have experienced both OB care (with my first) and midwifery care (with my first and second). She was absolutely amazing and provided such thorough, incredibly supportive care. Each appointment lasted 30 minutes or longer, and I felt extremely heard and valued during that time. She always addressed my questions and offered assistance or recommendations when needed, and responded in a timely manner to my emails which helped ease a lot of my concerns. She provided so much support through a couple of challenges we encountered and everything worked out so well with her guidance. Her qualifications and past experience alone made me feel so secure throughout my pregnancy. Beyond that, she definitely makes you feel like family and has an absolute passion for midwifery and love for families which is palpable. During my labor and delivery, she was so calm and collected which transpired throughout the whole process and made it the best home birth that I had been praying for. I thank God so much for her and highly recommend her to anyone considering midwifery care for their pregnancy, labor and delivery."
"Mishell is such a lovely midwife serving our county! Not only is she a sweet presence, but she prayed for and with me, and sent me on my way feeling more at ease. She loves the Lord and her joy is always present."
"Mishell is a genuine caretaker. She is a wealth of knowledge, ray of sunshine and positivity and most importantly a protector of your family during pregnancy, labor and postpartum. Mishell made me feel safe from the moment I met her and continued to support our family through the beautiful rollercoaster of pregnancy, labor and postpartum. Throughout my pregnancy, she helped me build the confidence I needed to give birth naturally at home, she guided my partner in ways to support me and gave me the utmost strength during labor making knowledgable decisions to help move my contractions along and get us closer to our baby. She was always there for a hug, a cry, a laugh and we can't wait to work with her again someday. Mishell is a Godsend and we could not recommend her enough!"
"Our experience with Mishell and her team couldn’t have gone better. They showed up to the house right away and instantly we felt like we were in the best hands possible for our home birth. The mix of professionalism, expertise, understanding, attentiveness, and empathy they bring to their work gave us everything we needed to feel completely supported and safe. Working with Mish and team is truly a holistic experience. The level of preparation, support, and responsiveness they provide throughout pregnancy, during birth, and post-partum made this the most wonderful way to bring our daughter into the world. Thank you Mish and team!"
"Throughout my pregnancy, labor, and delivery of my first child, Mishell provided the most wonderful care. Her approach is exactly what I needed. She is warm, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. I felt safe and confident in her ability to help me bring my son safely into this world. Prior to meeting Mishell, and choosing her as our care provider, I had a lot of fear and anxiety around giving birth. My delivery was long and challenging but under the loving and attentive care of Mishell, I had a successful homebirth surrounded by love and support and without any fear or anxiety. It was truly a beautiful and transformative experience and I credit much of my success to having a truly amazing midwife!"
"I am so impressed with Mishell and her assistants. Mishell gave top notch care from the first appointment through delivery and postpartum. I cannot sing her praises enough. She is a gem. She is a wealth of knowledge in midwifery and lactation support. I love that she incorporates herbs for support during pregnancy and postpartum. She figured out that I had a significant food allergy early in pregnancy and recommended some herbs for treatment and elimination of the foods from my diet. It worked like a charm. From my first appointment I felt very empowered and cared for, I knew she was a good fit for me. Mishell was such a calming presence for me. I also had the pleasure of Lisa attending as well as another midwifery student attend Baby's birth. I felt so honored as Mishell supported me through my delivery. She not only supported me, but my husband as well. He said, "I felt respected and involved in the entire process". He was able to assist in delivery of our son. I am so full of gratitude for Mishell. She provides holistic care for mom and baby. You will walk away feeling empowered, knowing that you have an immense amount of support during pregnancy and beyond."
"Knowing Mishell’s professional background gave me a lot of confidence in her as a provider-she’s experienced in so many ways surrounding birth, postpartum, and baby care. After my first birth experience being an unexpected c-section, I really wanted the chance to try for a VBAC. When I met Mishell early in my second pregnancy, she was fully supportive of my ability to birth naturally. I also really appreciated her availability to me in moments of anxiety during my pregnancy. She was understanding and compassionate. As my due date approached, she showed concern for keeping me within the ACOG guidelines for VBAC and proactively helped us moved things towards that. After a couple of sleepless nights of prodromal labor at home it was a bit of a roller coaster that night, but she and Alex did everything they could to boost my energy and keep us moving towards a successful VBAC, which we finally achieved! It was an amazing experience for me, my husband, and our older son. Rather than feeling like a bystander to my own child’s birth (as I felt with my first), I LOVE that Mishell and Alex allowed the birth moment to be OURS as a family. They were right there to support us and cheer me on as I pushed our baby out, but my husband and I were the first people to touch our baby as I brought him to my chest. That moment means the world to me, and I so appreciate that Mishell understood that and gave us the space for it. She is knowledgeable, experienced, compassionate, caring, and has an upbeat, can-do personality. We are so thankful!
Empowered! That is how Mishell will make you feel. After two “by the book” unmedicated hospital births I knew I desired a more peaceful, calm environment with my third. I desired care that focused on me as an individual, not just a one size fits all approach. I researched, read every book possible & interviewed midwives. Mish brought so much experience and wisdom to the table, matched by her kind & caring ways, it was a no brainer when we decided to work with her. What an incredibly healing experience it was. I had no idea how much my “by the book” hospital births actually held in them so much stress, trauma & unnecessary physical pain. My experience with Mishell was nothing of the sort. It was confident, relaxed, comfortable and attentive. I felt heard, seen and safe. Even when unforeseen things came up she handled it with a calm readiness. Mishell and team provided me and baby top notch care and I truly can’t recommend her enough. I’m forever grateful to have been in such good hands as I welcomed my 3rd baby earth side. Thank you Mish!!
If you're looking to do a home birth and need someone that will make you feel comfortable, look no further! Mish is very experienced, and any student she has with her, will make the sweetest birthing team! I just did my second birth with her last week and had a lovely experience!
Mishell provides excellent midwifery care. I've had two pregnancies with her now and her laid back manner paired with her knowledgeability and competence put me at ease. It is hard to explain but you do feel truly cared for.
We can't say enough good things about Mishell and Lisa. When we met with them there was such a resonance and care, we knew they were the right people to bring our baby into the world. They supported us every step of the way, provided lots of choice, education, and made us feel safe and empowered throughout the birth journey. They were available with questions, resources, and support. We had an amazing home birth and felt completely held, loved, safe, and honored. We are so grateful to have found Mishell and Lisa and couldn't have imagined a better team to bring our baby into this world and to support us in becoming parents. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
"I had been so fearful of birth! But once I got pregnant, I was determined to seek God for what His plan was with this pregnancy and birth. This led us to finding Mishell!
When we had our second ultrasound, it was discovered that the baby had a two-vessel cord which caused me a lot of fear. We had to get additional ultrasounds to determine his health at 24 and 34 weeks because it could cause growth restriction towards the end of pregnancy.
By Tuesday, Feb 1st Rivers didn’t seem to be growing much over the last two weeks and only measured 34/35 weeks at 37 weeks. Mishell and I decided we wouldn’t need the second ultrasound if growth seemed normal. But after these results, Mishell suggested that I go get the second ultrasound. It was disappointing to have to go back and I feared something was wrong. But I trusted Mishell’s decision.
At 37.5 weeks, 2 days later on Feb 3rd at 8am I got the second ultrasound with the Perinatologist and he said that Rivers was looking small and he recommends not going past 39 weeks to birth him. I thought I had 3-4 more weeks to prepare and now it was “go-time”! Now I had a deadline that was the opposite for normal birth in first time moms who usually go past their due date.
I now also faced the possibility of being transferred to the hospital to be induced. Mishell started to prepare the paperwork just in case, which would mean I may not be able to have Mishell there (and potentially my doula as well because of covid restrictions at that time). My whole plan was being flipped upside down.
The Perinatologist told Mishell to see what we could do quickly and we did! :) I somehow had to go naturally into labor within a very unrealistic time frame. It felt like there was so much to lose, but in the end God had a plan! After the scary ultrasound I called Mishell and she gave me some natural induction methods to try like homeopathic and Primrose oil.
I started that day doing every natural induction method possible. (Homeopathics, evening primrose oil, sex, 3-mile walks daily, double strong red raspberry leaf tea, to name a few). On Friday morning, Feb 4th at 4am I woke up feeling crampy. I thought it was from sex the night before. But then it kept coming on and off every 20-30 min. I slept lightly until morning and then Brandon and I went for our usual Friday coffee date. During the date I mentioned being crampy like a period and then thought I overdid it with all the natural induction stuff.
That night, I just felt weird. The cramps were coming 2 times every hour. I decided to go for a walk up a hill while Brandon went to cross fit.
While walking I had to stop twice because of the cramps. I still thought I was just overdoing all the induction methods. On the walk I listened to affirmations and then I prayed a pretty desperate prayer. I prayed to God that He would intervene today because I didn’t know what was going on with my baby. I prayed that He would be glorified in my birth. I also felt peace knowing that I was in good hands with Mishell and that we would err on the side of safety. If Mishell thought I needed to be transferred I would be able to trust she had my best interest in mind.
By 7pm Friday night, I had these weird cramps in my back that were about 15-20 min apart. Around 9:15 they were 10 minutes apart but I was still convinced this was not labor. I couldn’t sleep, so around 12:15 we called my doula to come over. I felt really bad waking her up in case this wasn't labor. At 1am my doula came and it made a huge difference. We chatted, and things were lighthearted and normal. I kept asking her if she was sure I was in labor. At 3am we called Mishell and she said we should come to the Birth Center, contractions were 4 minutes apart.
I didn’t want to know how dilated I was so Mishell didn’t check when we got there since everything seemed to be progressing well. We got there at 3:20 am and it was very peaceful. We had worship music playing and everything was calm. At 6 am Mishell asked if I wanted to be checked and I was 10cm!
6:30-8:30 am was a challenging time of labor and I remember saying I couldn’t do it anymore, but some stern encouragement from Mishell kept me focused. Mishell had good intuition and suggested I walk to the bed and put one leg up. (I thought she was crazy for telling me to walk haha!) But of course I didn’t even make it to the bed before my contractions came really fast and my husband had to help hold me up. Rivers was born minutes after! While Rivers was coming out, I remember Mishell being so calm, happy and everyone just happy and excited around me. She even made a joke about getting a massage afterwards!
After he was born I got to relax, nothing was rushed, and just be with Rivers and everyone! While I was laying there with my baby, Mishell told me the report came in from that ultrasound during labor and it was concerning. It said my placenta was not doing well and the baby was measuring 5 pounds. We thought, good thing I was in labor that day! The timing was crazy for the report coming in and it just showed me how when a baby needs to be born, our bodies will do what they need to do if we just get out of the way. I always recommend the natural induction methods I did with Mishell and believe that when the baby needs to come whether you are early or late, your body will do its thing!
The positive and peaceful environment in the room was exactly what I hoped for. I went home that day and was tired but also so joyful! I felt so thankful for an amazing birth and 100% would do it with Mishell again."
